Alpaca News

Welcome to Homestead Farm's Alpaca News. The following is the latest news on our  award-winning Alpacas, developments in the New Zealand Alpaca fibre industry and other Alpaca information that might be of interest to existing and prospective Alpaca breeders...

RUSSELL & CAROLYN  when starting out in Alpacas stated that they wished to be the number one breeders of both Suri & Huacaya in New Zealand.

We think that they have achieved that and some!

On 7 occasions they have won both Suri & Huacaya breed Supreme Champion awards AT THE SAME A & P SHOW. This included once at a New Zealand Royal and twice at the Canterbury Show.    No other Alpaca breeder in New Zealand has achieved winning both Supreme breed awards at the same show

At the AANZ National Show and Expo over the past 8 years they have won every Supreme award (Huacaya fleece, Suri fleece, Huacaya breed, & Suri Breed) and some of these Supreme awards on multiple occasions.

We think that this makes Russell & Carolyn leaders in the Alpaca industry with their Herds 'Hadstock N Z' and 'Homestead Farm'.

Although they have cut down Alpaca numbers considerably over the past 2 years, no Alpaca has been exported. Carolyn & Russell are looking at retirement but still retain a few good Alpaca so as to keep an interest in showing and the Alpaca industry. Russell has seen it before, New Zealanders selling stock overseas when they should have been retained to improve the breed at home.

They are always pleased to help New Zealand breeders improve their herd.

 HADSTOCK N.Z.

As our Suri Herd has not sold as a unit we are now prepared to sell animals in groups. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase Supreme Champions and top stock from New Zealand's first and leading Suri Stud.

Hadstock N.Z. prefix is certainly to the fore at shows in New Zealand and we see many Suri winning currently. One of our females 'Hadstock N.Z. Santolina' was for the second time Champion Female of the AANZ Expo and Supreme Champion at Ashburton. She was in her third fleece, having just weaned a Cria and 6 months pregnant again. Very special female and for sale as part of a package. As part of the Suri Stud for sale is also her mother and grandmother.

Russell & Carolyn are realistic with prices for their stock and all are listed on the IAR Herd Code HNZ. If you require mating dates or fleece stats please get in touch. Check out the 2 females on this web site.    Alpaca breeding females for sale

THE HERD WILL BE SOLD.

6 females and 2 males left  11/1/11

UPDATE

Many of the HADSTOCK N.Z. Suri have sold.

Russell & Carolyn would like to thank the many breeders who have purchased Suri in the past 2 months, and wish you all every success in the future, both in the show ring and with your breeding program.

Russell & Carolyn have decided to market there Suri herd as one, along with the prefix HADSTOCK N.Z. This is the first Suri stud in New Zealand.

All trophies, Cups, Champion ribbons will go with the Herd.

Although it is difficult to confirm numbers it is expected that there will be 14 pregnant females, 4 stud males, 4 Tui, and 8 Cria. 8 of these Suri have won Supreme Champion awards.

Expressions of interest will be called for in April 2010.

Russell & Carolyn have had good interest in the Herd, but at 20/06/10 it is still available.

It is very important that the Herd is purchased by people the Nelson's relate to, and finance will be available, if required, to the purchasers.
